ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the approval of 34 grants totaling $1,402,694 to support youth prevention programs in Georgia. The grants will provide prevention programs for high-risk youth and treatment programs for juvenile offenders.
"These community-based programs will identify children who are at risk,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. "They will reduce the factors that lead to our youth to make poor decisions and will provide them with positive role models.”
The grants were made available through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families; and the Georgia General Assembly. The grants will be administered through the state’s Children and Youth Coordinating Council (CYCC). Grant funds are awarded through a statewide competitive process. Successful programs are eligible for three years of funding based on outcome results.
CYCC assists local communities in preventing juvenile delinquency through the provision of state and federal grants, technical assistance, training and education of service providers, and juvenile justice law projects. The agency monitors juvenile courts, detention centers and other facilities for compliance with federal regulations and state laws related to the detention of juveniles. CYCC monitors and tracks state and federal legislation and programs related to children and youth, advises the Governor's Office and the General Assembly on the potential impact of programs and legislation, and supports funding requests for programs serving children and youth.
