Governor Perdue Signs Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund Legislation
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue today signed into law HB101, a bill allowing peace officers active in the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund to submit an application for benefits from the fund if they were denied benefits due to their race or ethnicity prior to January 1, 1976.
“Some law enforcement officers may have been denied their pension benefits because of their race or ethnicity,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “This legacy is unacceptable. Today we are righting a wrong that has lasted for too many years.”
HB101 was sponsored by Representative Tyrone Brooks in the State House and carried in the Senate by Senator Eric Johnson and Senator Bill Heath.
