Governor Perdue Orders Flags Lowered for Frank Eldridge
ATLANTA- Governor Sonny Perdue today ordered flags on the State Capitol building and grounds be flown at half-staff in memory of Frank Eldridge, Jr. on Monday, February 6, 2006, the day of his funeral. Mr. Eldridge served as Secretary of the Senate since 1993. He previously served as executive director of the Public Service Commission for four years and as a state senator from 1965 to 1982.
“Frank Eldridge devoted a lifetime of service to the people of Georgia,” said Governor Sonny Perdue. “He was a true servant leader, who earned the respect and admiration of his peers and the public he served with such dedication for over forty years. I considered him a trusted friend and often sought his wise counsel when I served in the Georgia Senate and as Governor. Mary and I treasured his friendship and we offer our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers for his family.”

FLAG ON CAPITOL BUILDING ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF STAFF
WHEREAS: The State of Georgia mourns the loss of Frank Eldridge, Jr., a dedicated and devoted public officer and public servant; and
WHEREAS: Mr. Eldridge served the State of Georgia in numerous positions of responsibility and trust and was elected by the voters to serve in the Georgia Senate from 1965 to 1982; and
WHEREAS: Mr. Eldridge served as Executive Director of the Georgia Public Service Commission for four years, from 1988 to 1992; and
WHEREAS: Since 1993, Mr. Eldridge was elected Secretary of the Senate by his peers and served as the official administrative officer and unofficial parliamentarian of the Senate, assuring the smooth functioning of the legislative process and earning the respect and admiration of all who served in that body, as well as members of the public; and
WHEREAS: Mr. Eldridge faithfully served the people of the State of
Georgia in each of his distinguished roles and positions with loyalty, integrity, warmth, humor and a heartfelt devotion to the betterment of our State and the welfare of Georgians; and
WHEREAS: The citizens of the State of Georgia share the grief of the Eldridge family during this time of great loss.
NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF FRANK ELDRIDGE, JR., PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of this State be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and grounds on Monday, February 6, 2006, the day of his funeral, until sunset.
