Governor Perdue Announces Executive Appointments

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue announced today the following executive appointments.  Brief biographies are provided below:

Board of Early Care and Learning

Darrell K. Wilder, 47, Valdosta, First Congressional District Representative – Wilder is the south region sales manager for Georgia Power and has worked for Georgia Power for 22 years. He is chairman of the existing industry committee for the Valdosta Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the North Valdosta Rotary Club and was a board member of the Athens YMCA. He is a certified energy manager with the Association of Energy Engineers.  Wilder earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Sara, have two children.

State Ethics Commission

Joseph “Rusty” Ross, 53, Savannah – Ross is a partner with Morris, Manning, & Martin, LLP. He previously served as senior vice president and general counsel for Memorial Health University Medical Center, Inc. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, Savannah Bar Association and the American Lawyers Association. He is chairman of the Hospice Savannah Foundation, Inc. and serves on the board of directors for the First National Bank in Savannah. Ross earned a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree and law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Coren, have one grown child.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Warm Springs Memorial Advisory Committee

Carolyn M. Carter, 89, Sea Island (Reappointment) – Carter is a retired photojournalist for the Atlanta Constitution and was the first female photojournalist there. She also did artistic and commercial work for Coca-Cola and what was then the Georgia Department of Commerce.  She was the first woman to be awarded a master of photography degree by the Professional Photographers Association and the first woman to be named “Man of the Year” in 1962 by the Industrial Photographers of America. She is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers.  She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. She is married to Don Carter.

GeorgiaCommission for Saving the Cure

Henry “Hank” T. Edmondson, III, Ph.D., 53, Augusta – Edmondson is a professor of political science and public administration at Georgia College and State University. He is also the director of the Center for Transatlantic Studies. He was named GCSU’s “Distinguished Professor” in 2003. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, American Society of Public Administrators, and the American and Georgia Political Science Associations. Edmondson earned a bachelor’s degree from Augusta State University, a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University and a doctoral degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Dorothy, have four children.

Georgia Real Estate Commission

George W. Holtzman, 62, Hinesville (Reappointment) – Holtzman is co-owner and broker of Coldwell Banker Holtzman, Realtors. He is president of Holtzman Insurance Agency – Allstate and Holtzman Real Estate Services, Holtzman School of Real Estate and All American Storage and U-Haul in Hinesville. He has served as the chairman of the Georgia Real Estate Commission and is a former president of the Georgia Association of Realtors and the Association of the United States Army Coastal Empire chapter. He is a United States Army Vietnam Purple Heart recipient veteran and currently serves as the military liaison for the Hinesville Military Affairs Committee. Holtzman earned an associate’s degree from North Carolina State University. He and his wife, Barbara, have one grown child and two grandchildren.
