Georgia Child Care Tax Credit Receives Unanimous Approval
ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding final passage of the Georgia Child Care Tax Credit (HB1080):
“Child care is a critical need for many families in Georgia. Assisting hard working parents with these costs is a practical step government can take to help create conditions for economic prosperity and improve the safety and well-being of our young people. I appreciate the legislature’s unanimous approval of the Georgia Child Care Tax Credit.”
HB1080 passed the State House 154-0 and the State Senate 50-0. The bill was sponsored by Representative Rich Golick who serves as a floor leader for Governor Perdue.
The Georgia Child Care Tax Credit will start at 10 percent of the federal credit in 2006 tax year and grow to 30 percent in the 2008 tax year. It will return approximately $50 million to working parents to assist with the cost of child care.
